On this tour you will get to see the old red-brick factory buildings that were established on the shores of Tammerkoski rapids and used to offer work for the city dwellers. The areas of Finlayson and Tampella remind you of the once so thriving textile and machinery industry. The Ministry of the Environment has selected the area as being one of the national landscapes in Finland. Nowadays the factory facades shelter modern premises for education and high technology businesses. In addition there are cafés, restaurants, museums and even a movie theater. The architecture is skillfully transforming the old to modern.
From the heart of the city, the tour continues to the nature reserve Pyynikki. The Pyynikki ridge is the world’s highest gravel esker formed by the ice age, and from the top of the ridge one can see both the lakes surrounding Tampere, Pyhäjärvi and Näsijärvi. The highlight of the route is Pyynikki observation tower, where you can admire the breathtaking views over the city and the lakes. There is also a cafeteria downstairs of the tower, where you can try the best doughnuts in town!
